i bought this carcano rifle from a friend,he bought it from a co-worker about 2 years ago for 35bucks....he told me all he wanted was his money back,so i offered double his money back and took the lil rifle home....its a 6.5 cal i dont see any import marks on the gun...the chamber is mirror,riflings are strong,bluing has a crack in the top forearm stock and was wondering if anyone sells the stocks?

I don't know if they are available commercially, they very well may be, but here's a link to an outstanding milsurp site. • Index page

I thought that sounded vaguely familiar. :eek:

I worked on a few Carcano's years ago. The progressive rifling is odd to say the least.

What is the bore condition? Is it frosty?

thanks for the link to the site CA357...

it would be awsome to find a side mount scope and throw on it...being it shoots about 4'' high @50yrds using what looks to be milsurplus ammo...

for the money i thought it was odd myself the condition of the chamber,riflings, these things be shot to peices or something?i have another carcano like this..and the wood is perfect on it...but the rest of the rifle,not so good..maybe its had a rebarrel done in the past?either way im happy,for now...

the bore looks good from what i can tell...very little frosting..strong riflings,very good chamber...

The Carcano is a strong action. When Italy decided on the 6.5, they used a bullet that was to heavy/long. The bullet would catch the rifleing before it had fully left the case neck and would twist into 2 pieces. The answer they came up w/ is a progressive rifleing. The twist rate gets faster the closer to the bore you get. There is no other Military rifle that was built this way. 50 yards is not a true test. The sights are of the 300 meter variety. You are looking at 8"+ high at 100 yards. The Germans actually rebarreled them to 8x57. They have allot of History.

You noticed that too:eek::eek:

About your stock crack. Why not try and repair it? Sounds and looks like you really made out here.

About half of my 10 Mosin Nagants were 70 dollar rifles.
