Default1915 Broomhandle Mauser C96

1st off, please dont tell me to call the authorities, ATF, etc etc.

I am selling this Broomhandle for my girlfriends uncle.

it is in good condition for its age. strong bore. the wooden stock has a split in the top, that you can see in the pics. on the :"slide lock/release" right before the button, is a small crack in the frame.

serial is 3311 or somthing like that.

the leather holster is worn, 2 straps are worn off.

hes asking $7500, which is probly too high, and i told him ill see what i can do. i dont think its worth that much, but he had it appraised by a gun enthusiast friend that said it was at least worth that.

hes not a collector, just trying to get rid of it, without giving it away.

also wanted to post here to see what the general consensus was. What do yall think? any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Guys

IANAE (I am not an expert) on the broomhandles. I do know there are a bunch of different models, some of which command a premium- IF anyone is buying.

The original shoulder stocks for a very few handguns are exempted from the BATF restrictions- this pistol is one that IS exempt. Shoulder stock is legal. Unless you have a Schnelfeur (full auto) there is no interest to the Feds.

I think his asking price is quite a bit on the high side. There are variables- caliber, hammer type, barrel length, yada yada yada- that I am not familiar with- and to be honest, your pics are too fuzzy to give me a feel on finish condition.

Both auctionarms.com and gunbroker.com have a search feature that allows you o search closed auctions for the past 90 days. Average broomhandle that DID sell seems to have brought less than $1000. A LOT did not sell at the asking price. One conehammer w/ stock DID fetch over $8k, looks mint.

Your best shot (pun intended) is to go over and search the past auctions, compare his'n to the ones that sold. You do need to be registered to search closed auctions at GB.

Better pics would help, but $7,500 is quite high. Are the grips original, or repro? They look to be in very good shape.

A friend of mine recently sold a beautiful C96 with stock for $2300 at the Ventura Gun show.

Better asking price would be $750 rather than $7500. I've never seen a broomhandle go for more than 1k..

The crack in the frame would make this a wall hanger or parts gun right?

That's certainly a nice looking piece. It does appear to have been refinished though. While you might be able to find someone to buy yours for $1700, the OP will never get $7500 out of his..
