Stevens 200 Spiffed Up
Thought I'd try messing with a Stevens 200 so...
Bell and Carlson stock
SSS Recoil lug
Stockade bolt handle
Brux 26" barrel in .222 Remington with a 1-14" twist
After a five month wait the barrel came yesterday from SSS. I installed it and headspaced it last night in hopes of getting some range time this weekend.
I think I'll see how it shoots before bedding it. The stock has a full length aluminum bedding block so I am hoping it will be ok for the summer since I want to shoot it instead of look at it anymore and tear it apart to bed it. Definitely not a "walk around" rifle. My best guess is it weighs in at about 12-13 pounds.
With a alum bedding block you don't need to glass bed the rifle the block is doing the same job as the glass bedding would do.
Good looking rife you got there.
Why did you go with a triple duce over say a 223 or 22-250?
I have a few .223's alrready and am buildlmg a 220 Swift on a mauser action. 22-250 jusr never "did it" for me. I wanted a .222 more out of nostalgia than anything else I guess.
I think pure cartridge accuracy the 222 beats the 22 mag, 223, 22-250.
I like the triple duce.
I'm beating my "triple-deuce" just looking at that honey!
