Remington 03A3 Sporter Project
I was thinking about a Swedish Mauser for my next rifle. However a fellow member here saw my Eddystone project thread and offered me this Remington 03A3 for a song. He said he'd never get it done, so he offered it to me. As soon as I can get it out of California gun jail, it will be my next project.
I was only able to handle it for a few minutes when I did the paperwork on it last Monday. So, more will become clear when I have it in my possession.
The bore is exceedingly bright with strong rifling. It has been bedded, but according to the seller, it will need some cleaning up. The barrel has bedding compound on it and it also has four or five holes where I assume it had a rear sight of some type. The rear sight mount is still on the receiver, so it's a bit confusing to me.
There is a muzzle brake of a type I've never seen before. However, it looks very cool and different. I originally thought of having it removed and the barrel cut and crowned. But I'll be better able to make a decision after I've had a chance to check it out.
The stock is beautifully grained and should finish up nicely.
So, here are some photos to show where it will start its journey.

The wood on that rifle still looks to be in pretty good shape and could be amazing with a little work. I am sure that rifle will come out just as nice as the Eddystone did.

Yes, the plan is to highlight that beautiful wood. I also have to fit a recoil pad.
It needs some gunsmithing. I want to have the holes on top of the barrel filled and it needs to be drilled & tapped for a scope.
Then the steel will be refinished and I'm not sure what I'll ultimately choose as a finish. I've gotten pretty good at the spray on finishes, but this rifle may need to be blued.
More to follow in time.
