I finished my AR build and decided to hit the range. The scope I picked up at a flea market for 15 bucks. This is the first time it has ever been mounted on anything. I don't know much about scopes. But it says on the knobs that each click is 1/4 inch at 100 yards. That seemed like pretty minute adjustements to me.

The trigger needs to be broken in. It was really gritty. I could not keep the crosshairs from moving on the target as I squeezed. The picture of the target is on a standard sheet of computer paper. The spread is about 3.5 inches. But a lot of the holes are really close to the center.

I was shooting at just over 100 yards. I think once I get the trigger broken in this will be a really good rifle. I broke down the rifle and cleaned and lubed it and the trigger is already a lot better.

That's excellent shooting, especially for a virgin rifle. It also looks like you're a pretty good shot.

As you continue to shoot it, the grittiness will ease and the parts will wear and seat together.

It really was a blast to shoot. I was surprized how easy it was to dial in the scope. I started out about a foot high at 100 yards. I shot about 5, 3 round groups and this was what I ended up with.

I took about 5 minutes to clean up the trigger group. Then I loaded up some different hand loads. I have a 1:7 twist barrel, so I decided to go with a heavier bullet. I was using a 55 grain fmj. The new load is a 75 grain HP on top of 23.0 grains of BL-C(2) I must admit I really went to the extreme with the ammo. I weighed each charge. I used a caliper to check the length of each finished round. I set them to 2.2495 each. I even used brasso and polished each case. The bolt moved flawlessly. It was like closing on an empty chamber.

This is my best group today. I still need to zero my scope. But I am amazed at the group. I havent seen a 100 yard cloverleaf since I was in the army.

Sadly, my eyes are not what they used to be. After a few rounds it is hard to focus through the scope. I guess the eyes simply get tired quickly. I used to laugh at my wife as she would hold a book at a distance when she was reading. Now I do it too! I have a couple pairs of dimestore reading glasses. But, I am too proud to wear them.

You may be getting eye fatigue from the light through the scope. I had the same problem when I went to scopes due to yellow tint shooting glasses. Now I use smoke tint glasses that cut light by 80% and man oh man what an improvement with eye strain in sunlight conditions. I also need and use reading glasses but never when shooting. My brother, on the other hand, has script glasses to see anything at all and always needs to use them weather it's irons or scopes.
