Default Plastic Repair?

I know this should probably not be on the forum but I have seen other ATV related posts. I got a nice size hole in my tank for running over a tree while it was getting dark. I am going to try to repair it myself. I didn't know if anyone has done some plastic repair themselves and could recommend a kit to use. My uncle tried to epoxy over it after adding a piece of metal(like a big washer for a screw) and it still leaks.

I was going to try to use this(I would rather not order something online but pick it up locally if lowes or something has it):
http://www.amazon.com/Three-Bond-Plastic-Repair-17MPRK/dp/B005UGKHTS/ref=sr_1_21?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1341570461&sr =1-21&keywords=plastic+repair

I watched a video where someone cut a piece of plastic 5 gallon bucket to a general size of the hole, Heated the plastic of the bucket with a blowtorch for welding and heated the hole almost to melting point then fitted the plastic into the hole so they were melted together. I would then sand down the rough area of the plastic and epoxy where the "plastic weld" would be to hopefully create a good seal. Any ideas on this?

I'd probably just replace the tank and save the trouble. It would suck to go through all that and have it fail out on the trail.

I am just fixing it because my grandmother uses it to travel back and forth from her house to the barn on her farm. She uses it to haul some hay back and forth and whatnot. I have others that are mine but this is for her. it wouldn't be pushed hard by her like it was by me. I figured a patch would hold up under those conditions.

Ah well. I guess it's worth a try then. I've never done it. I would be real careful with the torch idea.

I am going to be quite careful. I figure screw it, I can't really mess up the tank much more. Why not try a few things before buying a whole new tank.

Somehow, a blowtorch on the gas tank just doesnt strike me as a good idea.

Go down to the dealership and ask them how you should patch it. I'm sure you arent the first person to poke a hole in a gas tank.

How about a replacement freeze plug? How big is the hole. We used on a 1/2 hole just drilled it to the right size.

I have worked with gas tanks before. I know that fumes ignite. The tank has been empty for over a year now. I am just getting around to it. I will remove it from the atv, fill it with water while covering the hole, then turn it over to work on it.

and

freeze plug? What is this freeze plug you speak of?
