parts came in...

And I think I've learned a lesson.
I ordered a Wilson Combat drop in beaver tail, a Smith and Wesson commander style hammer, and a Swenson extended slide stop...

Well, the grip safety looks like ass, with a huge gap between the frame and beaver tail.

The hammer is fine. Except it's in the white. No biggie, interesting contrast.

The slide stop has a card in the baggie for "the JTM company". The finish and overall appearance is complete and total ****. I mean, just ****ing, damn, ****.

Overall, not a happy mother ****ing camper. Not at ****ing all.

What's the lesson I learned? Stop being a cheap **** and do **** the right ****ing way instead of trying to make do with sub par bull ****.

I'm going to check into returning this **** and see if there's a REAL gunsmith around (not the turd down the street) who can do this for me the right way.

I like the hammer and the extended whosawhatsit.

You'd have to see the slide stop up close and personal. It looks like crap. The finish is exceptionally crappy. Overall, its a MIM part that looks like it received no final finishing at all whatsoever.

The hammer was cool. I actually liked it. It's a MIM part too, but it was actually finished instead of just being left in the rough. But it's going back as a packaged deal.

Have you tried shooting with an extended slide stop?

While most look "cool", I have a problem that my thumb interferes with the intended action and the slide will not stop.

I am not knocking your choices, but you may want to return to the original and leave it.

The grip safety does have a little gap, but it should not affect function.

Are you planning on re-finishing the peice?

Have you thought of going stainless on aftermarket? With stainless barrel bushing and hammer, having the rest of aftermarket parts in SS may add a "personal" touch!

And those screws, they gotta go man.

;)

Silly 1911 people; if I don't like something about my X45, I leave it out in the sun and reshape it when it gets soft enough. Worst case, I gotta break out the nail file and soldering iron.

Ok, I put the hammer and grip safety back on. At least the finish is ok on them.

That piece of trash slide stop ain't going back on though.

Maybe if you gave it a fancy name it would be better? "Barrel-housing arrestor" or something?

Come on, you don't think the first guy hungry enough to eat fish eggs called them caviar, do ya?
:D

I'm going to stick with the original I think. I usually slap the slide to chamber a new round after a mag change anyway. After examining the way I grip the gun, I would anticipate the very problems your talking about. It's a rarely used part for me, I just thought it would be cool to have one long enough to reach so that I could try it out.

The only way I would find that piece of garbage acceptable would be to sand and Emory board all the orange peel texture from it and reblue it.

Could I? Sure. Worth it to me? Not in the least. If I were to go that route, I should just build one myself from a forged piece of steel.
