Default New Build

Having another match rifle built for 1000 yard, steel, and possible TBRC. It's been a couple of months that the gunsmith and I went over what I wanted to do and we came up with a 260 Rem./ 308 Win. switch barrel for this project. The 300 WM I had built for 1000 yard and shooting for about two years now, barrel has 1132 rounds through it and is done. New barrel is on order. Thought I'd get at least 1500 rounds out of the 300 WM barrel but I didn't. Regardless here whats in the new build.

Surgeons 591 Action

Bartlein 5R barrel in #7 MTU contour, .299/.308, gain twist to 11.25, chambered in 308 Winchester with PT&G "Bisely Match" reamer to minimum SAAMI specs, finished at 24" with 5/8"X24 threads and muzzel protector cap on muzzle.

Bartlein 5R in #7 MTU contour, .256/.264, gain twist to 8.0, chambered in .260 Rem. with PT&G "Remington Tac Match" reamer to minimum SAAMI specs, finished at 26" with 5/8"X24 threads and protector cap on muzzle.

McMillan A-5 with KMW Loggerhead, adjustable spacer system and 1" Pachmeyer Decelerator pad, four flush cups (bottom and left side), small rail for Atlas bi-pod, Marble pattern 50% medium blue, 25% black, 25% plain medium grey.

Badger Ordance M5 DBM

Badger Ordance 34 MM scope rings

Jewell trigger

Piller bedded with 7075 aluminum pillers in Devcon Steel Putty

Singel color of black Ceracoat to all metal work.

Microslick finish to bolt and reciever interior.

Premier Reticles 5-25X56 with Gen 2 XR reticle.

Pretty much I copied the 300 WM rifle exact as possible, as I'm very comfortable with it and don't believe in "changing up horses in the middle of the stream". Plan on "racing" this rifle more in the 260 Rem. configuration. The 308 Win. will be more for live fire practice. Also I'm providing the gunsmith with the muzzel brakes that I had Elite Iron make. They are their new and improved Max Tac models, near the same as I have on the 300 WM. Don't know if I'll use them, try the rifle with and without these brakes and decide then. Thats why I have the thread protector caps. Will use my buddies suppressed cans when I go to his state however.

Already have a Premier Reticles 5-25X56 on my 300WM. Will have another because I've become very familar and quick with it and it's reticle. Time allowed at each fireing line is much shorter than F/TR or F/O class matches.

Except for all the stuff in Greek, I understood a lot of what you wrote there.

O.K. so I ordered an action wrench today from Surgeons to change barrels back and fourth on this rifle.

Surgeon Action Wrench | Surgeon Rifles

Will check out barrel vises to buy but I've been looking at this one.

ALL-PRO BARREL VISE - Brownells

Whats your thoughts on a barrel vise?

Default Spartan Precision Rifles Switch Barrel

Well its been done for a bit over a month and it is a tack driver in it's .260 Rem. mode. I'm more than confident that the .308 Win. mode will be just as precise.

Here's a photo:
