My next project has arrived.

I ordered a M44us incomplete from the CMP. I got unlucky and got one that was parkerized not drilled and tapped for a scope mount and the stock is all beat to hell. But that is what will make this build/rebuild more fun. I may end up scrapping the stock or I may not. The two best things about this gun are 1. the bore is so bright you can't hold it up to the light to look in it you have to point it at a smooth white surface to look down the barrel. and 2. the bolt is complete. I seen some guys get some really nice complete 44us well missing rear sight. out of this. But mine didn't oh well. The park is good thick but good. I may refinish the stock and do a rubbed oil finish on it and leave of the ding nicks and such in it then slap a nikon scope on it once I get it drilled and tapped and call it a day then sand bag a bunch of people at the range.

Here are a few pictures.

Looks like a nice project, Tango. Are you going to be able to get a trigger guard strap for it?

Yes that is not a problem. My father is the second largest owner of mossberg spare parts that I know of. He is sending me that and a mag. which is sweet because they run $30 to $50 depending on where you get them and if some stupid idiot is bidding on them.

Looks like a good project to work on while sitting in the window watching the birdies. Would it be too much trouble to use some wood filler on the stock and then sand it down smooth before you finish it?

I don't want to make it too nice then I can't sand bag with it at the range you know. Kind of like this. "Look I will bet you I can out shoot your fancy 10/22 with this here old beat the hell up cheap mossberg."

A diamond in the rough. That's what that is.
I don't suppose dad has any "extra" front sight hoods laying around does he?
(Hint-hint) ;)

That is one stout-looking .22! I like the look of an experienced stock.
(wants to see "after" pics too)
