My Homemade Holsters
I wanted to try an IWB crossdraw holster and couldn't find a reasonably priced option so I decided to make my own. I'm pretty new at working with leather and Kydex, but it's surprisingly simple. I also made an IWB mag holster, a credit card holder, cell phone case, IWB knife sheath, and I'm working on a sheath for a Cold Steel Trailhawk. I'm working on a tuckable IWB reverse draw holster but I haven't perfected it yet. I love the idea of being able to draw with either hand, and the fact that nobody does it any more. Hopefully I'll be able to get it figured out. In the mean time, I'm loving the crossdraw.

I'd like to see any projects other members have undertaken.

Looks as nice as anything I ever paid for, but I think you are gonna want a second restraining clip on that holster?

Actually the retention on the belt is fine with just one clip. The grip of the gun rests on my belt and keeps the whole thing from diving into my pants. I experimented with some other designs and ended up liking this the best. It may not work for everyone, but I'm very happy with it. The belt clip locks on so tight that even if the holster does shift position (like if somebody were to swing me around by my feet) it wouldn't fall off completely. The gun would fall out of the holster before the holster would come off my belt. I also designed a tuckable clip for the crossdraw holster. It was one of those ideas that popped in my head a couple weeks ago and then I completely forgot about it until today. I gotta start writing that stuff down!

The mag holster could use a second clip, but I'm trying to keep it as small as possible. I put the clip behind the mag so that it tilts forward a little bit. I find it makes drawing the mag a little quicker and seems to conceal the mag a bit better. So far it seems to stay in place pretty well, and again, the clip is stable enough that it can't go too far.

The designing is the most difficult part. I look at other designs and borrow elements that I like. I couldn't find a single IWB cross draw holster that I liked so I studied a few OWB holsters to get the basic idea then started experimenting.

As far as learning to work with the materials, I read some tutorials and watched a couple YouTube videos. Then started doing it. The first few attempts weren't pretty as I went for function over fashion. Now that I'm getting the hang of things I try to make them look nice too.

Thanks for the all the compliments. I tend to be very critical of my own work and convince myself it isn't up to par. It's nice to get some objective feedback to tell me otherwise.
