Www.texasknife.com is where I got my scales... I might go with a bit bigger piece next time because the width is the same as about the minimum you need... Thanks for the ideas on the urethane, that's most likely the route i will go, I'm a big fan of the way they look and would love to keep that look. Thanks for all of the good responses, I am wanting to do some more on these maybe even start a small business but for now I'm gonna make some for my family until I get better.

Marine Spar will last the longest in terms of finish, as its used on boats. Potential issues are its thick and not really sand able. We used it on hand rails in homes but only after a couple coats of normal sand able urethane(sanded between coats to achieve a VERY smooth finish), I can tell you the marine spar will look fantastic and be very very durable. I'd suggest using it on some other like wood and develop a technique before committing to it on your grips, which look awesome btw!!!
