Default Mosin Nagant Project questions

So I've decided that I want to sport my mosin up, and I have an idea of how I want it to look.

However, I don't have the tools to crown the muzzle once I've cut off the 7 inches. Does anyone know of a place in MD or a place I could send it in to and they do it for a reasonable price? Or maybe know a cheaper solution in a DIY situation without having to buy a $70 bit to crown it? Also, when I get the new stock, what is the point of bedding pillars? Thanks.

Ask yourself one thing before you do this. Why?

Do you want a tack driving, modern rifle? Or just because you can?

If your answer is "just because I can", then more power to you.

If you're wanting a modern sporting rifle, you can do it better and cheaper by starting out with a more modern rifle to begin with.

Now. A barrel can be crowned by chucking a bolt in a drill, coating the head with polishing compound, and working that on the muzzle. Recoat as needed, often.

The biggest reason is for the fun of a project, I figured this would be a good one.

Yep, so "because I can.", right?

In that case, have fun man. I'm a bit of a purist, and I couldn't see doing that to a piece of history, but, to each his own.

If you decide you want to save your mosin's history, you can buy barreled actions for very little money. Classic arms usually has some, or you can find them floating around.

I have a Mosin that I bought years ago that was horribly "bubba'd" for a parts gun.
I've been thinking of doing the same thing with it.

Well down the road, I'll likely just set aside money to buy4 or 5 of them and keep 3 of them in classic configuration.
