Default Mosin M38 Scout Rifle Project

I bought a very nice M38 with the idea of turning it into a Scout Rifle. None of the changes are permanent and I can restore it to original if I so desire. I put it in an ATI Mossy Monte Carlo stock, because I wanted to avoid the evil black rifle look. I used a Nikon eer scope, a mount I picked up online and a surplus sling. I think it came out pretty good. It doesn't have all of the features of Col. Coopers concept, but it's close enough for me. An unexpected bonus is that the recoil pad on the ATI stock really dampens the recoil and makes it very easy to sight and shoot consistently Here's a few pics.

What did you use to mount the scope?

The Moslin is not my first choice in actions, but at the price you can pick them up for you can make a pretty nice little rifle at a very reasonable price. Looks nice.

I used a no name mount I bought at CTD for around fifteen dollars. The first time I fired it, it shot loose. I tightened it up and used loctite and it's been good ever since.
With decent ammo, it shoots around 4" to 5" groups at 100 yards. That's as good as I can shoot. Someone with younger eyes may do better.
If I need to be super accurate, I have another rifle for that. The Mosin is an excellent rifle for field use and it's a great truck gun.

Did the same thing to my Mauser 98K
Found this deal that includes the scope, rings and back site rail on line.
I am very happy with the results.

I'm in the process of building 2 M38 Scout rifles.
ATI stock, UTG scout Mount, FM EER scope, and I'm having my Bolt's bent by the Boltman.

I'll post pics once I get the bolts back and do the Camo job on my stocks.

CA, I think you did a nice job with it. It should suit your stated purposes just fine.

Thanks OC, but it's long gone.
