Leather Knife Sheath Help
I'd like to make a sheath for my Randy Porter bowie knife. Everywhere I've looked seems to sell whole hides. I only need a piece of leather about a foot or so square. It has to be relatively thick like holster leather. I plan on lacing it rather than sewing it although I'll probably have a shoe repair guy stitch the belt loop on it.
Has anybody either got a piece around that size or can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I get my chunks from the local shoe repair guy. The link below will take you to the site of a gent in Idaho, that does superb leather work. He may well have be able to help you out.

Go to Google maps, put your area then search for leather stores.
Tandy leather worked for me before, they sell lots of scrap leather pieces. I read that you can use old leather stuff...like leather handbags, jackets, etc. Depending on your desired end product that might work for you. If so, go to Goodwill and or Salvation Army and see if they have anything that you can use.
God luck!!!

I like the look but I think I *might* have to get someone who knows what they are doing to help me alter the size a little.
To keep from hijacking this Knife thread, I'll post some pics elsewhere so you can see what I mean...

Oops!
Posted it in my original thread about the RIA before I saw this!
No worries...my cousin is a woodworker by trade and I called him to see if he'd take a look at them...
Thanks for the offer to help though!

Don if you have a Tandy in Sacto they will set you up. I got a pile of materials to make some sheaths from the one near me. This was my first try at making the sheath that was living between my ears.
