Centerfires and muzzleloaders get cleaned each time fired. Centerfires with Ed's Red Bore Cleaner, muzzleloaders with Dawn Dish Detergent and hot water. Target type rimfires are cleaned if function begins to fail such as jams etc. or before
storage. Air rifles are cleaned fairly frequently if fired a lot.

And what does this do? Water is supposed to be the universal solvent. Hot soapy water has been used for many years to make harmless salts and carbon. Not a clue what vinegar might do for cleaning anything but mixed with ammonia to clean glass!

...AFTER EVERY USEI also fire alloy bullets(lead), so I will fire a copper bullet following every 20 or 30 rounds of lead bullets. This will help a lot with any build up of lead in the barrel. Lazy mans way of cleaning lead while still shooting at the range.
...I also use bore snakes on every gun BEFORE GOING HOME and giving them the big cleaning.[/B]

I've started running a patch of Bore Butter or tranny fluid
every 20 shots or so at the range, to help make home clean-up
easier. DNK if it helps, yet...

I clean my firearms after every use. I'm a brainwashed NCO in the military. If the gun ain't clean the operator is wrong.
I use CLP mostly and occasionally Hoppes #9.
I figure that if I ever have to depend on my firearms to save my life, I'd rather the firearm be cleaned, oiled, and squared away.

I hate to tell you this Bob but tests have shown that shooting a copper bullet down a lead fouled barel does not clean out the lead. As a matter of fact if the barrel is fouled with a lot of lead deposits the copper bullet can embed the lead even deeper into the pores. And it has happened, that in some cases it will bulge the barrel. I would imagine that might happen on large bore rifles or highpower express guns. Think of the shape of a modern bullet. Pointed, then tappered to full bore size. There is no sharp edges to scrape or push the lead fouling out. The bullet acts like a iron, pressing the lead down as it goes over it.

Meanwhile, I'll add that I have recently started saving old cotton underwear and T-shirts for cleaning and polishing. Currently using Hoppes #9 and other regular gun cleaning products, but the smell is offensive to the wife so she wants me to clean outdoors.
What prodcuts have the least offensive smell?

If the smell of Hoppes #9 is offensive to your wife, you need a new wife. LOL On our 2nd. Date I took my wife (Lt. Linda) to a muzzle loading rendezvous. She came in 7th out of 39 women most of which had years of experience. Lt. Linda had never had a gun in her hand before that. She now owns 9 guns of her own.
