Default First Ar build

I live in California and I'm interested in building an AR style rifle. Since 223 is hard to come by I thought of a 762 version. So then I starting doing a little research. Come to find out there are many different types. Ar-10, dpms, lr 308, and sr25. My question is what are the differences?

The 7.62s or 308 rifles are a good choice since there are no real bargains on 223/5.56 ammo any more. And it also depends on what you are going to do with it. I have a Rock River LAR-8 and have also hunted deer with it very successfully. It is a 16 inch barrel and will shoot 1 MOA Groups. Has the 2 Stage National Match Trigger that comes with them. All of the 308 ARs are heavier than the 5.56 and none of the parts will normally interchange with another brand. Good luck on your choice! Here is the Rock River LAR-8 with Leupold Scope. One thing I forgot I do not know if anyone makes a magazine button for the 308s that makes them California Legal. The other issue could be possible magazines Cal. legal? So you will need to check that out. We do not have to worry about this BS in Tennessee!

Thanks for the info. My brother and his wife are moving out of state so I may wait. They'd like me to move with them and I might do so, partially to get a way from the strict gun laws. I mostly would like the rifle for long range target shooting, and get into hunting. I come from a large hunting family.
