In your first post you indicate that the 97 has an aftermarket barrel. Just guessing I would presume the barrel was made after the 1930's if so it should have a 2 3/4" chamber (the longer chamber) the old chamber length as was previously stated 2 5/8". If you can feel the heading ring in the chamber and if it feels a little smaller than the chamber,the brass will swell about 1/4" in front of the rim of the case. this will cause an extraction problem. If on the otherhand the heading ring is a little larger that the chamber in diameter the brass will swell near the case rim. Again not sufficent info to diagnose properly. Paul J
