I have a customer that has a walther/colt 1911-22 with fixed sights. He wants to change them out for adjustable rear sights. Walther doesnt offer them for this model and a normal 1911 rear sight is shooting about 4" high when the rear sight is all o the way down and a .215 front sight. This is the time to concentrate on the front sight. If you can replace it, I would suggest checking out Brownells.
If it is not replaceable, consider "building" it up then doing some machine work.
