I used all 98 parts in my VZ24 so I don't know what that guy is talking about.
If you want to go extra cheap, you can knock the iron sights off a decent Millitary barrel, have it shortened and recrowned, spend $79 on a Boyds Walnut stock, and $80 to have it drilled and tapped for Scope mounts (this includes cost of mounts). You also will need the bolt handle forged down ($40 usually).
The 8x57 mauser is an extremely overlooked and extremely applicable round. It will kill anything in North America deader than it needs to be.
So you figure $80 for D&t, $40 for a decent Barrel $40-$50 for barrel recut, $90 for a shipped stock. $40 for finishing materials, and another $50 if you want an aftermarket hunting trigger.
That's $350 to start shooting before bolt forging and a scope.
Marlin XL-7, or Stevens 200 would put you in the same boat with a warranty for the same money.
I build mausers for a semi living. We build em as low as $350, and higher than $3,500. It all depends on the level of detail wanted. If you have a bare receiver with o bottom metal, or bolt stop, or follower/spring, your cost went up as well.
If you MUST have a rifle built on this action. Contact me with what you have, and I can get you an estimate on everything.
