Default Stevens Model 512 O/U 12 gauge

I bought my son a Stevens 512, 12 gauge. He shot maybe a 1000 rounds through it and the firing pin on the bottom barrel broke, took two months to get it fixed. Used it this past weekend, 50 rounds and it broke again, switched to top barrel and upper firing pin broke as well. Please help, any suggestions (besides throwing it in the dump!) I've looked online and have been unable to find replacement firing pins.

its a utility grade gun that is old and beyond its life expectancy. as guns age, problems should be assumed will happen.
it needs tlc from a great gunsmith who knows pin lengths and striking distances.
pins must be hand fitted. you dont just drop them in.
where have you looked so far?
512 pins should be common. a good smith can make one using the old one as a gauge.
good luck.

thanks Bobski, I just bought it last december for an xmas present(brand new). my son shot a few thousand rounds through it in his trap/skeet club when it first broke, had it repaired, lasted about 400 rounds before the bottom barrel broke first then the top.

The gun should still be under warranty. I would send it back to Savage/Stevens and let them worry with it. $25/$30 for shipping is less than paying a gunsmith to repair the gun. You might get it shipped for less if you get a gunshop to ship it for you.
