DefaultSks 7.62 dragonof sniper

I was replacing the old stock on my sks rifle, when I noticed that the threads had '"washed" out on the piece that clips the magazine to the upper receiver, I don't have a problem with re tapping the hole, my problem is I can not find any shallow taps. Any ideas I am all ears

If Brownells does not have the required taps, try http://www.midwestsupplyusa.com/products.html

you need a bottoming tap. those taps have no taper to them and are designed to get into shallow holes or to thread to the bottom of a blind hole.
for a little bit of future knowing you have taper taps to start, plug taps and bottoming taps. the bottoming tap should do the trick.

U can make a bottoming tap by grinding the end off a taper tap. Don't let it get too hot, or it will lose its temper.
