Shotgun Choke Tube Problem

Recently my brother (young and dumb) decided to try and put a Remington modified choke tube into my Mossberg shotgun. He screwed it in, but now I can't get the dang thing out. I've tried putting (safely) the barrel in a vice and using pliers to try and "unscrew" the choke out. I believe the threads are different and now it just turns inside the barrel without moving out. Any suggestions for trying to get the choke out?? I haven't brought it in a gunstore/shop yet...

Try a wooden dowel close to the caliber of the gun run in through the chamber end to put some force on the choke while you try to unscrew it.
If you don't have the proper tool for removing the choke, get one.
BTW Welcome to FTF.

@mountainman13

Thanks, I'll try that.

What is the proper tool for removing the choke? Are you talking about the T- shaped tool that fits in the grooves at the end of the choke?

And thanks for the welcome, this site seems full of insight and good information.

Yep, That's the one.

You're Welcome. Good luck.

This is not a good sign. The threads are different and it sounds like they are stripped.

Take it to a proper gunsmith before it gets any worse.

I'm still thinking gunsmith, but this might be worth a try:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/112007/carlsons-sporting-clays-speed-wrench-choke-tube-wrench-12-gauge

This wrench expands to grip the inner surface of the choke, so you could turn AND pull the choke out at the same time.

Best of luck.

I ordered that tool from Midway USA and it took only 3 seconds to pull it out! Thanks for the help and ideas!!!
