Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag

Possibly this query has been posted before, but the cylinder pin on my 44mag started moving forward on firing.I replaced the rod and the locking screws with brand new parts, which lasted for 4 rds only, when the parts started moving again.Anyone advise me on a cure. The gun has fired approx 1200 factory rds & approx 3000 reduced load reloads. Many thanks for any help.

I've always had good luck with the Ruger service department although they can be a bit slow sometimes.

The best fix is to get an aftermarket base pin that features the set screw to lock it in like I did. You have the option of the drop in unit or the oversize that has to be fitted but eliminates all play. Brownells sells them. I tried posting a link to it but it didn't work.

Slipping cylinder pins have a continuous problem in heavy recoil single action revolvers for a long time. In 1928 Elmer Keith had R. F. Sedgley build his fameous No. 5 and that incorporated a screw in the cylinder pin to keep it from sliding forward under recoil. I have an early firest aproduction Ruger Blackhawk (Flat Top) .44 mag that the pin walks out on all the time. There are heavy duty springs available through Brownell's that may help the situation and as stated in other posts here cylinder pins with set screws to secure the pin in place. One day I will get around to ordering the latter.
