400 grit finish with the safety and floor place release to add a little contrast and a new stock when I can find one for it.
I brought the 740 home finally, got a B+ on it. I would have had an A on the project but I made the mistake of thinking cleaning the barrel last week till it was squeaky clean was enough, it wasnt. I had some leach out over the past week and when the instructor ran a patch down it since it waasnt 'clean' he deducted it to a B+. Kind of makes me a bit irritated too next time I"m gonna scrub the &%$k out of it 10 minutes before I turn it in.
Supposedly that's a common mistake for students in the Basics section of the gunsmithing school, I thought I had avoided it but apparently not.
Anywho, gonna just let the hole ride until it does present a problem, the owner isnt to worried about it and I told him I'd fix it if he really wanted me to when it starts to make problems.

That's excellent. Well done.

try Richard's Microfit Stocks. they may have a stock that is close enough to the original rifle that you could modify and make fit. hang in there, B+ is still good. we all learn from our mistakes. and good luck with your project. post some pictures of the 308, i'd like to see it.

I just pulled my Westerfield 780 out of the bluing tanks and set it in the locker to cure overnight and oooh boy does it look pertty.
Sorry I couldnt really get pictures of the 780 before hand, but I'll definitely post the after pictures and/or videos of both the Westerfield 780 and Remington 740 soon.
