Refinishing a Parkerized 1911

I have a parkerized Springfield 1911 that is showing rust specks. Can anyone suggest a better finish or should I get it re-parkerized. Thanks for any help.

How much do you want to spend?

Cool, I'd like to hear this one too. My RIA is showing some signs of holster wear.

I would prefer to know a range of methods. This 1911 holds sentimental value, so I would like to compare methods to know what was getting for the money. I want to use it for CC so I like the matte finish but I would like hardy finish.

There are several shops out there that offer custom gun coatings. You can strip it and Gun Kote it yourself for the price of a can of the stuff and some over time. It's not the best choice, but it's cost effective.

Robar Guns is one of the leaders in this category and I have my 1911 .460 Rowland build off pistol with them currently. I have seen their work and been very impressed.

Nighthawk Customs is now offering two types of custom finishes. Perma Kote, which came on my T3 seems to be very durable and I haven't had any problems with it in over a year plus of CCW. They are also offering a finish called Diamond Black, or Black Diamond, something like that, that actually penetrates 2 mils into the steel and is guaranteed for life.

Ion Bond is a company that has been garnering interest lately. I don't know anything about them, but I have heard their names in a few conversations.

I imagine that Dave Lauck and Les Baer and custom gun guys like that probably have some specific coating that is proprietary to them only and will probably cost you a second mortage.

Take a look at those and see what you think...

Thanks y'all. I looked at each website and I am calling customized creations Monday. I like the 2 coatings from robar, but will give customized the first shot. I like the price alittle better and the quicker turnaround. Once again, thanks. When I have a question, I know where to go.

Anyone know anything about duracoat. A smith does it here in Houston, so there would be no shipping costs.
