Default Recoil and Dislocated shoulder

I need suggestions on how to take out some of the recoil on a Bennelli 12 ga. Nova pump action. I'm shooting 3.5'' Magnam OO Buck. This thing kicks like a mule on Steroids. Thanks, Wills in da swamp in La.

Willis, I have a bad right shoulder. I shoot a 3 in. magnum Remington 1187. It's not so tough on me. Other guys in our group have added weight to the Benelli (in the stock-lead) to minimize the recoil. That said, it makes the Benelli tough to lug around.

Four very good things you (your gunsmith) can do. Recoil reducer installed in the stock, barrel porting, long forcing cone conversion, high quality recoil pad..........

Just curious, what are you shooting with that load?
Have you considered a shooting vest or jacket with a padded area for the shoulder?
Good luck with a fix.

The 3.5" 12 ga is brutal with any shot size. The Nova is known for delivering more felt recoil that other, similar guns (I am not sure why). Pachmeyer Decellerator recoil pads help. Mercury filled buffers help. Porting can help.

Once again, what are you shooting that you NEED that load. Will the 3" load get the job done as well?

Default Recoil from 3.5 mag

This was all the store had left in Buck Shot. And they din't know when they were going to get any more. This was just before gun season for Deer in this area. I bought the last two boxes they had. I'm taking any and all advice into consideration. Besides the Pain, This makes for one Hell of a home protection round. One shot One kill , ask any police officer. Wills in da swamp in La. Praise the lord and pass the amunition. God bless.

Two boxes? Is that the 5 round boxes i usually see buckshot in or did you find a full-sized box of 25? Either way, i'd save those for home-invading gators & just order a box of the 3" online if i couldn't find them locally.

Good luck with it, whatever you decide.

edit* I can only imagine what one of those would do to a Nutria. splat!

I've had good luck with the strap on PAST brand recoil pad. I don't shoot shotguns, but this pad worked very well when shooting a Marlin 1895 45-70 with 405gr. gorilla loads in it. I think PAST even makes a vest with built in recoil pad.

I have read some great reviews about these in several different forums. Might be just what you are loking for.
