Rebarrel or rechamber Savage 99?

I recently acquired a Savage 99 in caliber .300 Savage. It's a decent rifle, shoots well enough, but it's been well used and as such will never fetch much as a collector piece, so altering or modifying it doesn't concern me. The availability of .308 components (like brass) is much more abundant than the .300 Savage, plus it's a tad more powerful caliber, and I already have .308 dies on my bench. My question: if I wanted to rebarrel the rifle to .308 (or have the chamber recut), will anything else need to be changed/altered as well, such as the magazine, etc? Looking at the reloading manuals, the case head diameter of the two are the same, only difference is the .308 is longer. Would the .308 cartridges function in the magazine as it sits, or would it need to be modified as well? Has anybody out there rechambered a Savage 99 to a new caliber, and how did that go? Thanks in advance.

No other changes should be necessary in your rebarreling. I'm not sure offhand (without looking it up) if rechambering will "clean up" the chamber but it should.
