Join the Army...won't cost you a penny and you get to shoot all you want..j/k. Technically an M4 does shoot a .22 caliber round. That being said a .22lr rimless and a .223 remington are not the same, not even remotely. Caliber merely refers to the diameter of the round measured at the case. The other features of the .223 make the difference.
