A Question for an Experienced Gunsmith
I recently purchased a 357 Magnum Revolver that consists of a 2 piece barrel assy.
One piece which is the barrel. The second piece is called a "Cylinder Frame Sub Assy" which the barrel slides into upon assy. The Sub Assy appears to be a cast SS part.
After firing about 50 rounds, I noticed a small crack in the sub assy part which appeared to initiate from the area where the barrel end interfaces with it.
I do not know if it was there before I purchased it or not, but, it was during cleaning it that I noticed it.
In revolvers of similar construction (2 part barrel assys) is this a common area that shows stress fractures or cracks after 100s or 1000s or rounds? Basically at the end of the barrel area...
Thanks for your time...

What brand of revolver? Is the barrel removable like the Dan Wesson?

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SHOOT THAT REVOLVER WITH A CRACKED FRAME! PLEASE take it to a gunsmith to check out. No revolver is supposed to have a cracked frame!

The instructions do not explain how, but it clearly shows in the exploded view, the barrell slides into the barrel assy like on a Dan Wesson Revolver. It also looks like it may be threaded (my guess is that it must have threads since it is a replaceable part).
It is being replaced. So for me, it is a question more of education and understanding from someone with alot of knowledge about how a gun of this style might wear and fatigue.
Thanks.

Like bear sez, Don't shoot it. Some handguns using that type of barrel may not be up to the quality standards of Dan Wesson. Take it to a smith.

Again- what is the make of the revolver? The only common brand I am familar with that has a readily removable barrel is the Dan Wesson. The frames of those are NOT castings- they are forged steel.
I have several .357s (including a Dan Wesson) that have probably fired in excess of 10,000 rounds- and do not crack. DO NOT SHOOT THIS THING- and take it to a gunsmith. IT MAY KILL YOU.
