Plugging sight holes on a rifle barrel.
Other than plug screws, are there any methods for plugging the holes after removing the iron sights from a rifle barrel? Is there any kind of putty or epoxy that will work either permanent or temporary that will look good?

You could use just about any epoxy but I honestly think you would regret it in the future. The screws are cheap and your best bet.

You can use screws and dress them down so they are hard to see in the barrel.

I think I will use screws. But, what size do I order? The gun is a Remington model 788. Anyone know the thread size?

Think this is what you're looking for. |
Plug screws are most often 6-48 but sometimes are 8-40

Once you use epoxy or something similar, it's hard to reverse it. I would use screws if I were you.
