I just finished a similar project. Dad had his A-Bolt 25.06 stolen several years ago, along with my BAR and several other guns. I am replacing them for him and couldn't afford another A-Bolt so I built him a 25.06 from what I could afford.
Started with a Interarms (Zastava) Mark X commercial 98 barreled action in 30.06. Had a heck of a time removing the barrel from the reciever after 43 years. Bought a 25.06 barrel from Midway. Did a light bead blast rather than polish. Then parkerized the barrel and reciever with Shooters Solutions bake on parkerizing. Dropped it into a composite stock also from Midway. Rented a hand powered chamber reamer and used plastiguage and a box of new ammo to get the headspace correct. Mounted a Nikon 3-9x42 in Millet rings and bases. Except for scope and mounts have about $260 in the rifle. It will shoot better than 1/2" at 100 yards in 5 shots.
Waiting on my Dad to get back from his deer camp to find out how it worked for him.
