I recently brought home a pawn shop find. An M1891 Argentine Mauser. Previous owner had parkerized all the metal. The job was not bad however, I would like to take the parkerizing off the bolt and was wondering what method would give the best results and no damage to the bolt?

Most people suggest a bead blast to remove parkerization. If you don't want to take it to someone to have it bead blasted you can always use something that isn't very abrasive. polishing pad and polishing compound would probably be the next safest way to get it off but it will take a long time to get it off. fine sand paper may also be an option. it will take less time than polishing compound but may possibly cause unwanted damage.

Their is no good way to remove parkerizaton it is acid etched. Bead blasting will only remove the coloring. Polishing with sandpaper and compound will be the only way to take out the full parkerizaton. The only other way to do this is as mongo said get a new bolt and check the headspace.
