Hi, I have a Savage Model 64 (cheapo). I mounted a Bushnell 3x9 rimfire scope on it, and really enjoy going plinking with it. Standard 10 round mag.

My trouble is that the magazine release catch is very small. With the scope on there, I have to do a pinkie dance to drop the mag. I am thinking about grinding the thing down flat, and drilling/tapping it out, adding an extension to make things easier.

Anybody out there done this, and maybe has a 'project post' I could refer to? I don't want to ruin the gun...and the extension has to pass thru the stock for disass'y, of course. I've searched forums with no luck.

You could drill & tap the release for an extension pretty easily. That's what I would do.

That's what I'm considering. I guess I'd have to grind down that knurling, and use a drill press to drill into the release, then tap it. No idea what kind of metal stock to get for this, though. I haven't done any metal working, but a lot of woodworking....no drill press
