Default Mossberg 88 feed ?

Has anyone heard of a Mossberg Maverick 88 that had feed issues? This one will shoot one round and when you rack another round it will eject the shot one, load a live one but also drop a live one on the ground or in this case in the water duck hunting. It will only do it when shot, can not get it to do it by cycling rounds through it. I haven't looked at it yet but is sound like the shell stop or feed rail isn't working properly but why only when it shoots? Just trying to get a heads up for when I get it. Thanks for any in put!

OK after researching it I think its either the cartridge stop or the cartridge interrupter but why only when it shoots? But I can't seem to find them for a 88, are they the same as a 500? What do you all think?

Same parts as a 500

If you are the original owner and have had it for less than 10 years, send it back to Mossberg.

Thanks kryptar,I think it was bought used I will find out details on it later 2day. It's a friends sons gun who called last night in a panic he is sick of loosing shells in the water at the cost of steel shot. Kids! I would have gotten that looked at as soon as I lost the first shell but Dad probably bought the first couple box's or were his shells. But why only when you shoot it and not when you just cycle shell's through it? I really can't see there being something wrong with the bolt assembly?

Sear might be messed up. Tell them to call Mossberg even if it isn't under warrantee.

Check the cartridge stop. Its probably worn. These are very easy to replace. Just remove trigger assembly and install the new one in place of the bad one. Check Numrich for the part. Parts are the same as a 500. The only difference is the 88 was assembled in Mexico. By the way the ones assembled in the USA uses the same parts as the ones assembled in Mexico. If you can't get the part I can order direct from Mossberg. I am a Mossberg Factory Registered Armorer.

Thanks all! vagunsmith I did order the cartridge stop and the cartridge interrupter since they both just fall out and are not to costly put them in and problem gone. The guy didn't want to mess with going through Mossberg cause he had it about 8yrs and did buy it second hand so he told me to just order the parts so I did through Numrich.
