The firing pin spring would have nothing to do with the described problem.
Most likely, in order are: dirty chamber, dirty chamber and dirty chamber. There are other rare instances of burs or other problems but removal of 60 years of dried comsmoline, varnish, and who knows what else usually fixes the problem.
