Default Making your own compression spring?

Is there a hand tool out there that can make compression springs, and has any one done it?

A lot of guys wrap them with the lathe. You can use a vise and wrap by hand also. I don't remember seeing a hand tool for that.

You can use just about anything round. You might have to play around to find the correct diameter.

I bought mine from Brownells but that was years ago. Don't know if they still carry it.
