Default Making my own gun

I was wondering, when making your own gun, how can you determine that you will not cause the barrel to explode by the force of being fired? Is there some calculation on the type of metal, thickness, versus amount of gunpowder, diameter of calibre???

It's best to leave firearms production to those properly trained and experienced in firearms manufacture.

What sort of machining experience do you have?
