K98 Mauser action
I am wanting to build a .35 Whelen from a Mauser action. Just wanted to know if anyone knows of a 100% reputable dealer that sells them. If I have to I'll take a barreled action or the whole rifle but would prefer just the action.

Are you looking for a smith that may have an action for sale, or a smith that will sell you the needed items and do the build for you?

K98 build
I'm gonna do the build myself. The bbl will be coming from Green Mountain and all I need for right now is an action. I've read varied reports on some of the Mauser dealers that advertise in various publications so I'm having difficulty in finding one that is reputable.

What I do is find whole rifles cheap and strip them down. That way you can sell the barrel & stock and recoup some of the purchase price. I can usually find a whole rifle cheaper than a complete action anyway. The condition of the barrel/stock should give you an indication of the care (or lack of) that's been taken of the rifle.

I have been involved in two Mauser builds, the first was a .308 on a VZ 24 receiver. ( It started out as a complete rifle and I sent everything but the receiver, floor plate- trigger guard, pillars and trigger group down the road to recoup some of my cost.) I was directed to the VZ action as one of the better actions to acquire as the materials and workmanship at the armory were first class.
The action was in great shape, rails were nice and even, and the bolt, floor plate and receiver were all marked the same.
The gun shows here in LA have a few dealers selling Mauser actions, the average price is around 125-150. In fact today's Big 5 sporting goods have a Mauser rifle complete for under 200.

From my experience Mitchell's Mausers are top rate and much too nice (and expensive) to strip down for a build. If you still want 1 to strip I can't think of a nicer line of rifles to do so.
