In the right side of gun photo - are we seeing the back edge of the round?

The pistol is irreparably ruined. It won’t be covered by the S&W warranty. There’s no sense in even keeping it. You should package it very well and send it to me. Only I know how to dispose of it properly.

That's the extractor-claw in the grove at the base of the round.

S&W wants me to take it to the local police station and have them clear the jam.

Lmfao. That's a good way for them to clear you of your firearm.

Yep, like some of us said, have a gunsmith do it. Just hope it isn't an only Glock certified police gunsmith..
Or,
If you are looking for some fun and excitement, let a TSA agent try o fix it. Stand way back though.

Just make it perfectly clear to the smith that there is live ammo jammed in the gun. Some guys get very angry when people hand them loaded guns for work.

Perhaps this video by Clint Smith will answer some aspects of your problem:

It sounds like they still have some of the English idiots working for them. Did the rep have a British accent? No slur intended for British firearms owners. They have some brains.

The only squid round that I have had was Remington 9mm in my CZ 75. and i have fired a good bit of ammo. It can happen with any ammo. Another example, I built an AR-15 with a DD barrel chrome lined it will not fire any steel casings.
