What you need to do is get a set of sling swivel studs designed EXACTLY for your rifle. They will fit perfectly. It sounds like you've been buying swivel stud set for rimfire rifle with tubular magazine-that's why they're not big enough. To get them installed perfectly, and without being offcentered or scratching anything, take it to your local gunsmith. The front sling stud will fit right on when the correct 1 is chosen for YOUR rifle, but the rear will have to be drilled into the stock and it's darn easy to get them crooked unless you know what you're doing.

On the 7600 the front swivel should attach to the screw at the end of the forearm, not the barrel.

I looked at Uncle Mikes site and saw the newer 7600 swivels use a barrel band arrangement. What caliber is your gun? I cannot imagine every barrel has the same OD (especially the 35 Whelen). I would contact Uncle Mikes for further guidance.
