Default Getting frustrated with a REM 700

I am looking to turn my rem 700 adl long action 30-06 into a tack driver. I am having a hella time finding a nice heavy barrel. If anyone knows where to find one let me know. Surely someone makes one I just cant seem to find them.

SHILEN : Barrel, .30-'06/1-10 Twist, Contour #5.5, CM (801-736-105) - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools

Are you going to do it yourself or hire a gunsmith to do it for you? If you have a gunsmith do it he can turn/thread/chamber any barrel blank you want. I'd HIGHLY recommend having your smith do it for you.

there are tons of barrel makers out there.

I would look for a 30 cal unchambered 5r barrel.

5-R Rifling

My 308 wears a Douglas barrel. It is really up to you on what barrel you get. There are button rifled barrels and cut rifled barrels. Some say buttoned are more accurate and some say cut are more accurate. Button rifled barrels have a button pulled through the barrel cutting all 6 lands and grooves at the same time. Cut rifling is just that the grooved are cut one at a time into the barrel. No stress is added to the barrel with the cut process.

Oh, yes without a doubt this is one for a gunsmith. I will play with somethings just to learn but not this one. Blowing a barrel up in my face doesn't sound like a good learning curve!!!

Bartlein Barrels, Inc. - Barrel Pricing
Top of the line barrels.

I'm using a Krieger Barrel for my Remington 700 1000 yard target rifle. Home

I also like Bartlein Barrels.

Also, while rebarreling your rifle get an oversize recoil lug for it and have the rifle bedded. Having the reciever trued also helps quite a bit.

the guys that started Bartlin were employed by Krieger at one time. They left to start Bartlin. So the barrels are just as good or slightly better than a Krieger.

Yep, what cp saya about Bartlin is true. Both Bartlin and Krieger make good barrels and are good to deal with. Oh, may suggest that you change out your trigger for a Timney or a Jewll trigger. I use a Jewll, and man theres no creep or travel and it breaks like glass.

Take the Rem to a local gun shop & trade it in on a Marlin XL-7 (.30-06)

More precision and less cost
