First time garage gunsmithing

So I other than sanding down some parts on the action of my Mosin Nagant and taking apart my Dad's S&W Sigma so I could remove a spring I never modified any gun, until now. I bought some Hogue grips for my Ruger standard (the original name for the MKI/II/III series) but my grip frame was an old model and they didn't fit; Irritated I let them sit in a box in my garage. about two months after that I saw them again and though, "Screw it I got a dremel and I'll make 'em fit." Well after about an hour I got them to fit almost perfectly. Not bad for a guy who's never done anything like this before I think. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it looks decent and feels good. I will post pics, sorry but they're going to be from my phone so don't expect anything fancy.

Nice. Did you make them? What kind of wood is that? I have been wanting to try my hand at checkering for awhile but have yet to get the tools needed.

Haven't shot it yet but it feels really good. Still too small for my large-ish hands but it's better than the factory grips.

I have the same problem, having large hands. I have made grips for some of my single-actions that are a bit thicker than the stock ones and those have turned out nice. I wish my 22/45 wasn't the polymer frame version as I would like to make some custom grips that fit my hands. I would also like to make a custom rifle stock for my 10-22 and/or my Mini-14. Just for kicks mind you. Though both of them have too short of a pull for me. I am a long-limbed 6'4" man so guns tend to be short for me.

Here is my first attempt at refinishing a stock.

I think it came out pretty nice, wasn't a fan of the red finish.
