Default Firing Interlocks?

What are Firing Interlocks locks? Like on a Mauser 96 what and where would they be? I tryed to google it and couldnt find anything. thanks for your help.

6) The firing pin nose section has the ribs to engage the interlock - the FP won't go fwd unless the bolt is fully closed.
