Default Colt 1911 - Learning How it Works

Personal Note #36 – On the Colt 1911 pistol, the kink in the safety’s spring prevents the spring from shoot out of the plunger tube when the safety is taken out of the frame. Is this statement correct?

Personal Note #38 – On the Colt 1911 pistol I cannot determine which plunger is smaller, the slide stop plunger or the thumb safety plunger. Which is smaller?

#36: That statement is correct. John B introduced the "kink" when it was discovered that during disassembly, the spring would shoot off to areas unknown.

#38: The smaller end of the plunger tube spring assembly goes in first. Making it the slide stop end. It will not work properly if reversed.
