checkering....
I was wondering if anyone knew where to find some templetes for checkering? and what I will need to do this?

If it's metal have you thought about stippling? I have found it much easier than chekering. http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p.../bobsroto2.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p...P/doinwork.jpg http://i414.photobucket.com/albums/p.../doinwork1.jpg |

If it's wood checkering that you're interested in, try this book It has quite a few patterns and a lot of great info. Brownells also has several other books and videos on checkering. They and Midway carry the tools you'll need.

I wanted to checker a rifle stock I am going to be building, it's walnut... maybe a laminate stock, I haven't made up my mind yet.

Also try woodworking catalogs...you'l be amazed at what you can find cheaper than gunsmith catalogs ;)

Any of the conventional woodworking catalogs I've seen don't cover firearm style checkering like gunsmithing catalogs do. I would recommend you make your own templates.
