I was wondering if anyone knew where to find some templetes for checkering? and what I will need to do this?

Is it checkering for wood or metal?

If it's metal have you thought about stippling?

I have found it much easier than chekering.

Stippling doesn't provide the dame grip surface that checking does.

If it's wood checkering that you're interested in, try this book It has quite a few patterns and a lot of great info. Brownells also has several other books and videos on checkering. They and Midway carry the tools you'll need.

I wanted to checker a rifle stock I am going to be building, it's walnut... maybe a laminate stock, I haven't made up my mind yet.

Also try woodworking catalogs...you'l be amazed at what you can find cheaper than gunsmith catalogs ;)

Any of the conventional woodworking catalogs I've seen don't cover firearm style checkering like gunsmithing catalogs do. I would recommend you make your own templates.
