Best Gun Cleaner Ever
Now this is what I use on all of my guns to seriously clean them when I first buy them from someone else, or if I buy a gun covered in cosmoline. This stuff goes by many names Gunsmith punch, Col. Hatchers drink, dam good sh*t, ATF cocktail, regardless of what it is called it will pretty much cut through any type of grease or other debris.
Here's the recipe:
1. ATF Dexron 3
2. Kerosene
3. Turpentine
4. Acetone
Now all you have to do is mix them in equal part in the order given, and behold the best gun cleaner ever in my opinion.

I drop my guns into a pail of WD-40 and let them sit for about 15 minutes. Brush them down, swab the bore, wipe them off, and Wham-Mo, clean as a whistle.

I don't like using WD40 in my shop its not the best thing for guns, I'll use WD for everything else except for my guns though.

WD has been reformulated it used to leave a gunky film with repeated sprays which is why OLD gunsmiths would discourage its use, it no longer does this, at least that's what the WD people say.
HOwever it does still dry out, so it may be a good cleaner, but you'll still have to lube then gun once it dries.
As for The ATF formula, just using ATF by itself will work as good, and be less explosive.
ATF is high detergent and anti corrosion.
Id be curious if anyone has used TRansyn, its synthetic developed by alison, for extreme detergency and corrosion inhibiting with extended wear.

Are you suggesting, the folks at WD are fibbing about their "reformulation"
Persoanlly I used brake cleaner in a spray can and CLP as a lube, with synthetic grease, inside the action.
