Default Add Weight to Rossi Youth Rifle

I just purchased a Rossi Youth Model Break-Open rifle for my son. I want to do everything I can to reduce the recoil. I purchased a slip-on Limbsaver recoil pad but was thinking about also adding weight. I removed the stock recoil pad and found that the entire butt stock is hollow. Could I fill this with something to help add weight and hopefully reduce recoil?

Yes, you can add weight filling that void in the stock. May some lead shot in a cloth bag or something.

I lived in Bossier from 1999 to mid 2008, good hunting in that area.

Welcome to the Forum. If you get a chance, stop in our "Introductions" area and say "HI".

Before adding weight, consider this.
If the recoil is too much for the youngun', would adding weight make the firearm too heavy?
What caliber is it?
What affect would changing the balance of the firearm have?
Too much caliber can cause a new shooter to develop a flinch that is difficult to overcome. How much experience does he have with firearms?

what danf_fl is asking is on point. how old and how much does he weigh? how tall? might consider a different more recoil friendly caliber to start with. my father started my brother a me with his 243 win. when we were 8 and 9 yo. that is a good kid friendly caliber, but it's loud! another suggestion might be some of the reduced recoil ammo. just some ideas to ponder.
