Default 45 win mag or 460 Rowland rifle

There was a guy on another message board that was going to build a 45acp 18" barreled rifle.

I am thinking why not go 460 rowland or 45winmag. It would be easy enough to do really. Find a doner action like a SA Remington or savage. Preferably a savage. Get a barrel and have it chambered in one of the two cartridges and have it cut to 18.5". Put a nice lower power scope like the Burris scout scope or the Weaver 1.5-6x24 Super Slam 30mm Rifle Scope . This would make for one hell of a short range brush gun for deer hunting or could make ground hog hunting VERY challenging.

I like the idea. Another thought is to get a M1 Carbine and rebarrel. It has been done before, but the there are other carbines that have been done in .45

ive hunted deer with my 458 winmag for a very longtime. usually loaded with 350grn softpoints going around 2500fps. the 458 is a very accurate rifle round and recoil is on par with 20ga slug when using a 350 grain load.

the only problem with downloading a big bore is you have to use either fillers or a large granule powder that uses a lot of volume for weight. reduced loads in a large case can lead to case detonation rather than normal controlled burn.

its one of the reasons im switching to the 458socom from the 458 winmag. the socom is the right weight in a platform i love using a caliber i love. cant beat the 45.

a better choice if you dont want go through the hassle of a 458 socom would be a ruger m77 in 44mag.

you could also just get one of the 45acp uppers from olympic.

Mech-Tech makes a carbine upper that attaches to your 1911(and glock)
lowers(frames) I sold one of my customers on in 460 rowland and it is a hoot.
I think thre is an out fit that makes conversions for mausers and enfields to 45 acp and now 460 Rowland, can't remeber the name though.

I know a guy who had an M1 carbine rebarrelled in .45 Win mag, I like the look and feel but have never personally fired it. I can't figure out why no-one has made one in 10mm.
