1911 front sight height

Default 1911 front sight height

I have a 1911 and the front sight came off at the range and i couldnt find it. How can i figure out what hight i need if i still have the rear sight?

Some 1911 manufacturers will know which front sight they installed, and some manufacturers will replace it (not all).

Not knowing which 1911 you have, there is a specific formula (and I found one in a Kuhnhausen book on the 1911) used to determine the height needed.

Is the front sight staked or dovetailed?
