Sword shopping, on the whole, is a nightmare. Most of what's out there is junk, stuff meant to hang on the wall, you'll hear the phrase "wallhanger" quite a bit.

A couple rules....

1) Stainless- No, no, no. A sword needs to be carbon steel. From what I've read, stainless, as far as edged weapons, is fine on anything up to 12", after that it becomes brittle.

The stainless one I had did indeed snap easily, so I buy the carbon steel theory.

2) Spot welded tangs- NO, NO, NO! These can snap just by swinging the sword, not actually making contact.

Okay, DID see that one, yeah, wicked sword. The guy wielding it makes them.

Now that is unfortunate. However, if we could modify or take one of his blades, combine it with a more traditional Japanese katana, two handed sized handle, that thing would be the slayer of slayers. *manical grin*

I have that sword replica. Loved the idea of an ivory Dragon Head and simply HAD to have it. The blade isn't worth a damn though.

As a boy, my escape was reading. Mostly about King Arthur. I've since had a fascination with the medieval swords. I found a cool link to some of them here: Medieval Swords

Confession Time. There is a Renaissance Faire ( that's how they spell it, so eff off ) about 10 minutes from the house and we are going this weekend to check out all the booths, and get a real braut with stone ground mustard.

I was going to take pictures for Benning & taunt him. LOL
